What is Cron?
Cron is a time-based job scheduling daemon found in Unix-like operating systems, including Linux and macOS. It allows users and system administrators to schedule scripts or commands to run automatically at specific dates, times, or intervals.
Understanding the Syntax
A standard cron expression consists of 5 fields separated by spaces: Minute, Hour, Day of the Month, Month, and Day of the Week. An asterisk * represents "every" unit (e.g., every minute). You can also use numbers, ranges (e.g., 1-5), step values (e.g., */15), or lists (e.g., 0,6).
Why use a Generator?
While basic cron expressions are simple, complex schedules (like "every 15 minutes on weekdays during business hours") can be difficult to construct manually. A visual cron expression generator eliminates the guesswork and translates the cryptic 5-part syntax into plain English, ensuring your scripts run exactly when intended.
